If you qualify for Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), you also qualify for a variety of free tax help and no-cost tax return preparation including electronic filing.
Volunteer Assistance Sites - VITA
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. Including:
- People who generally make $64,000 or less,
- Persons with disabilities,
- The elderly; and
- Limited English-speaking taxpayers
IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. VITA sites are located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls and other convenient locations.
Self-Help Tax Preparation
Many VITA and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) locations now offer help to those who don't have access to a computer or want to make sure they prepare their tax return correctly. Do it yourselfers can visit one of the participating tax preparation sites and an IRS-certified volunteer will guide them through the process.

Tax Counseling for the Elderly - TCE
In addition to VITA, the TCE program offers free tax help for all taxpayers, particularly those who are 60 years of age and older. TCE volunteers, specialize in questions about pensions and retirement-related issues unique to seniors. The IRS-certified volunteers who provide tax counseling are often retired individuals associated with non-profit organizations that receive grants from the IRS.

A majority of the TCE sites are operated by the AARP Foundation's Tax Aide Program. To locate the nearest TCE site or AARP Tax-Aide site between January and April use the AARP Site Locator Tool or call 888-227-7669.
